Marine algae power against formation of oral biofilm

A solution to prevent dental biofilm is needed

Dental biofilms are formed by oral bacteria on the surface of teeth, and constitute dental plaque. Bacteria present in very high concentrations in biofilm/dental plaque produce diverse unbeneficial bacterial metabolites. While dental plaque contains acids, inflammatory substances, and malodorous substances, they directly cause oral problems such as caries, gingival inflammation, bad breath, and tooth discoloration. It is very difficult to remove biofilms only with brushing and antibacterial ingredients.

Mechanism to inhibit bacterial adhesion to tooth

Early adhering bacteria harbor to tooth surface through interaction with oral pellicles, components of saliva. MILLTECT blocks oral pellicles before bacterial adhesion. Moreover, MILLTECT also can bind to some antibiotics like cetylpyridinium chloride. As a result, antibiotics are kept on the surface of the tooth and they will work more effectively.
