New Era of Aging Care
What is Proteoglycan ?
Proteoglycan is a type of glycoconjugate. It consists of a core protein with one or more covalently attached glycosaminoglycan chains such as chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate. It is one of the most important components of extracellular matrix, which is widely distributed in the body such as skin and cartilage.
A method to extract a large amount of high-purity proteoglycan from nose cartilage of salmon was established through a joint research project with Hirosaki University and KAKUHIRO Co., Ltd. Using this method, ICHIMARU PHARCOS has produced a raw ingredient for cosmetics containing soluble proteoglycan called “Proteoglycan IPC”.
What is EGF ?
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) performs an important role in adjusting the growth and proliferation of cells. The amount of EGF has been proven to decrease as we age and is believed to slow metabolic rate and lower the ability of cells to regenerate.
It is known that the EGF-like domain exists in the aggrecan proteoglycan. And proteoglycan derived from nose cartilage of salmon has been confirmed to perform an EGF-like activity.
